Middle and High School English
Alicia has had a God-given heart and desire for teaching in secondary education ever since she was in high school. She finds true joy in challenging teenagers to read critically and see things through a biblical worldview as they study literature and the world around them. She desires that students also feel confident in their skills for the written and spoken word as they move into the occupations God has for their lives.
This is Alicia's 24th year of teaching with experience in the public school, private Christian school, and home education. She graduated from Bob Jones University in 2000 with a B.S. in English Education and a minor in Interpretative Speech. In 2004, she completed her Master of Education in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English.
She became the Director of Burge Terrace Home Educators in 2018 and started the academy in that year. She has directed multiple dramas and musicals over the years including the 10 years of BTHE Elementary Drama Camp.
Alicia and her husband, Ryan, are youth sponsors with the Burge Terrace Youth Group where the Lord continues to widen her love for teenagers. They have one college student, and two younger children enrolled in BTHE. She enjoys reading, music, the ocean, and, on rare occasions, Mt. Dew slushies.
ASL I and II
Melissa has over 40 years experience within the deaf community. While in junior high she befriended a neighbor who was deaf. This friend taught her how to finger spell the alphabet and learn basic ASL words.
She attended Tennessee Temple University which included a deaf school within the university; chapels, student body meetings, and church services included an interpreter for the hearing impaired students. As she was continually exposed to American Sign Language she began learning even more through interaction with deaf students and enrolled in the university's ASL courses. Melissa's ability to communicate with several deaf students earned her recognition to accompany deaf students as interpreter to various appointments.
Mrs. Alexander continues to use her abilities whenever possible and loves the opportunity of sharing with BTHE students as they learn to love the beauty of the “Silent language."

Above all, our archery program is a ministry focused on giving glory to God. BTHE students are not just archers, but servants of Christ taking the love of Jesus with us to schools all over the state. Kerri Dilling enjoys working with the Elementary and Middle School choirs. It is extremely rewarding to not only teach proper vocal technique, but to hear immediate results when students apply what has been taught and worked on. She loves seeing the progress in students who have been in her choir several years. "There is nothing more fulfilling than having a beginning student unable to match pitch or carry a tune who progresses each year to the point that they can beautifully sing!" Kerri’s goal is to teach children the joy that can come from making beautiful music and ignite within them their own love for singing and music.
Kerri earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice Performance from Maranatha Baptist University. With a passion for music from a young age, she entered college aiming to master the pedagogical aspects of singing to help others develop a lasting love for music. She began teaching private voice lessons during her college years, and the knowledge gained from music and voice pedagogy classes, along with practical experience, has enabled her to effectively teach elementary and middle school choir.
